Refugee After-School Program Performs A Play: "The Day Charlotte Was Saved"

On Thursday, March 26, the Refugee After-School Youth program of Catholic Charities performed a play for parents! They wrote and acted in the play themselves! Such a fun, creative, enriching activity!

LEO Co-Directors Keynote at 2014 CCUSA Annual Gathering

James Sullivan and William Evans, Laboratory for Economic Opportunity Co-Directors and Principal Researchers, delivered a keynote address at the 2014 Catholic Charities Annual Gathering. The LEO Project is an innovative research center at Notre Dame created in partnership with CCUSA. LEO works directly with Catholic Charities agencies and other social service providers to design and evaluate anti-poverty programs across multiple focus areas, including early childhood development, K-12 education, food and nutrition services, homelessness, job readiness and intensive case management. The 2014 Annual Gathering was hosted by Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte from October 4-7, 2014.

Easter Basket Delivery

Every Easter, St. Matthew Catholic Church delivers 100 baskets of food to Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte for distribution to local area families in need. This short video of the unloading, sorting and pickup of food is just a small part of all the hard work that goes into making all this possible. Thank you to our volunteers and St. Matthew Church for partnering with CCDOC and helping families have a blessed Easter.

Catholic Charities Employee Becomes a Citizen

Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte employee Mark Khup and his wife Ciin Cing became United States citizens in August 2013. Mark and his family were refugees from Burma. Now Mark works in the Refugee Resettlement office, assisting people who were just like him not too long ago. Catholic Charities was happy to be a part of Mark's important day. Congratulations!

Fr. George Kloster Wins Catholic Charities USA Volunteer of the Year Award

Fr. George Kloster has been awarded the Catholic Charities USA Volunteer of the Year for 2013. His dedication to the people of far western North Carolina for the past 15 years is felt community wide. Rev. Kloster is the pastor of St. William Church and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He served on the advisory board for the Office of Economic Opportunity of Catholic Charities in Murphy, NC, until his retirement in the summer of 2013.

Building on 40 Years of Service: Becoming Catholic Charities

The Charlotte office logo unveiling ceremony was held on May 17, 2013. On that day 40 years before, Bishop Michael Begley authorized the incorporation of Catholic Social Services in the Diocese of Charlotte. The change is prompted by the desire to adopt a name that more closely reflects our mission and the Church's rich history of charitable outreach. The name also identifies us as a member agency of Catholic Charities USA. As the third largest national charity, Catholic Charities USA member agencies serve more than 10 million people, regardless of religious, social or economic backgrounds each year.

Catholic Charities Annual Lenten Diaper Drive with Asheville Catholic School

Each year, Asheville Catholic School has an annual Lenten Diaper Drive for Catholic Charities. This year, the students collected more than 8,000 diapers. The 4th grade collected the most diapers of any grade with a total of 1,730 diapers. ACS staff also collected more than 3,000 baby wipes.
