CHARLOTTE FOOD PANTRY
At Catholic Charities, volunteers are the heart of our mission to serve neighbors facing food insecurity. There are many ways you can make a meaningful impact by assisting our staff at the Charlotte Food Pantry.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Restocking shelves to ensure pantry items are organized and readily available
- Packing food boxes with nutritious essentials for individuals and families in need
- Distributing shopping bags and assisting clients as they select their groceries
- Picking up food donations from local food banks and community partners
- Assisting with inventory management and sorting donations
- Helping during special food drives and seasonal initiatives

MAKING A HOUSE A HOME
Catholic Charities helps transform empty spaces into welcoming homes for individuals and families starting a new chapter in their lives. Through our furniture program, we provide essential household items — from beds and tables to sofas and kitchen supplies — helping create comfortable, dignified living environments.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Picking up donated furniture
- Working in our furniture warehouse
- Setting up homes for new residents
- Assisting with light repairs or assembling furniture

MENTORS AND TUTORS
Catholic Charities welcomes volunteers who are passionate about helping refugee families and children build a strong foundation for their future. Through our mentoring program, volunteers provide critical academic support, mentorship, and encouragement to refugees adjusting to life in a new country.
Volunteer opportunities include:
> Student Success Coaches
Volunteer commitment: 1 hour weekly during the school year
- Work with elementary or middle school-aged refugee children
- Provide weekly homework help, encouragement, and academic support
> Youth/Young Adult Mentors
Volunteer commitment: 1 hour weekly (or twice monthly) for a minimum of 6 months
- Support individuals aged 16–24 as they navigate young adulthood in the U.S
- Assist with education options, skills development, and career path exploration
- Help mentees build independence and confidence within their community
> Family Mentors
Volunteer commitment: Flexible
- Serve as a welcoming presence for newly arrived adult refugee families
- Provide support with job search and financial literacy
- Assist with learning conversational English
INTERPRETER VOLUNTEERS
Catholic Charities is seeking compassionate volunteers to serve as interpreters for individuals and families who are navigating critical services in a new language and culture. Interpreter volunteers play a vital role in helping clients access resources, understand important information, and feel welcomed and supported.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Providing language support during client appointments, workshops, and community events
- Assisting staff in communicating important program information and services
- Helping refugee and immigrant families feel empowered and understood as they adjust to life in a new community
By bridging language barriers, you help open doors to hope, opportunity, and self-sufficiency for those we serve.
Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Swahili, and other high-need languages is especially needed.

DONATION KITS
Students, school groups, parish ministries, and service organizations can make a meaningful impact by assembling donation kits for our neighbors in need. These projects are a great way to earn service hours, foster teamwork, and support our community.
