- Rights and Responsibilities
- Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
- Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers
- Solidarity
- Care for God’s Creation
As stated by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), “Catholic Social Teaching is a rich treasure of wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society.”
Catholic Social Teaching has its foundation in Sacred Scripture. It has been developed and articulated over many years through papal addresses and encyclicals and the statements of the USCCB and bishops from around the world. Adding to this teaching are the statements from local episcopal ordinaries, such as the Bishop of Charlotte, on social and ethical issues, as well as the educational resources provided by many Catholic organizations such as Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Relief Services. Through all these many resources, Catholic Social teaching promotes charity, justice, and peace with vitality and intellectual grounding.
