A Message from the Executive Director

Gerard A. Carter, Ph.D., Executive Director
Thank you for visiting the website for Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte.

Our history began over 70 years ago when the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh (which then covered the entire state) created a Charlotte-based branch of The Bureau of Catholic Charities. Our vast service area now extends through 46 counties, from Rockingham County in the north to Richmond County in the south and Cherokee County in the west.

We seek opportunities to expand outreach to our neighbors in need through our physical locations in Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Lenoir, Murphy, North Wilkesboro, and Winston-Salem and through parish-based program offerings across the Diocese of Charlotte.

Currently, we offer pregnancy services and adoption; individual, marriage, and family counseling; distribution of donated services to the needy; elder ministry; refugee resettlement and immigration services; disaster relief; economic opportunity development; support for pregnant teens and teens in crisis; and social concerns, education, and advocacy, including justice and peace, Catholic Relief Services, and the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.

Through the generosity of our donors and partnerships with funders, we are able to offer services either free of charge or on a sliding fee scale to all whose needs fall within our range of expertise and ability to serve. Our services are available to clients regardless of race, ethnicity, or religion.

Our more than 60 professional staff members have earned certifications, licenses, and other credentials to provide outstanding services and assistance. Through accreditation by the Council on Accreditation, a national accrediting body for human service agencies, and licensure as a child-placing agency by the State of North Carolina, we are able to ensure the best quality of service provision.

If I can answer any of your questions or you would like to arrange for a tour of one of our sites, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at 1-800-227-7261 or email me at ccdoc@ccdoc.org.

My best to you!

Gerard A. Carter, Ph.D.
