Refugees often arrive in this country with very few material possessions, making their initial needs great. Catholic Charities relies on donations of gently used furniture and household items to prepare a comfortable, welcoming home for newly arriving refugee families.
Donated items must be clean and in good condition. We will not accept items that are soiled, stained, torn, or broken. Cookware and bakeware should not be stained, scratched, or have peeling non-stick coating.
Our current needs are:
- Dining tables and chairs
- Sofas (no sleeper sofas or recliners)
- Side chairs
- Coffee tables and side tables
- Dressers
- Nightstands
- Dishes, cookware, bakeware, and flatware
- Cooking knives
- Bed and bath (new only)
- Blankets (new only)
- Floor and table lamps
- Gently used washer/dryer set
- Strollers – double or single
We cannot accept:
- Cribs/ baby items
- Electronics, including televisions
- Window treatments
- Toys and books
- Appliances (except for gently used washer/dryer set)
- Decor, including rugs, mirrors and wall art
- Mattresses
- King-size beds and bedding
Apartment Sponsorship This is an opportunity for large groups to adopt a refugee family and independently manage the process of collecting donated items and setting up a household in anticipation of their arrival (read our Sponsor Kit for details).
