Career Development / Employment Services

Catholic Charities Employment Services provides a holistic career development program designed to guide adult refugees, asylum seekers, and other eligible, legal immigrants in the Charlotte Metropolitan area toward self-sufficiency through employment. Our comprehensive approach integrates several key themes:

Employment Services

We offer robust employment services, including job-readiness counseling, referral services, job placement, and ongoing post-placement support. Newcomers receive an orientation to the local work environment upon arrival, which includes an assessment of their education, training, and work experience. This assessment helps us develop a personalized employability plan for each individual. We also have extensive connections with businesses across the Charlotte Region, working closely with employers to match them with suitable candidates and provide continuous support to ensure job retention.

Financial Literacy

To truly empower self-sufficiency, our program includes vital financial literacy training. We equip refugees with practical skills in basic budgeting, emergency savings, and goal-oriented money management. We also cover important topics like understanding credit, accessing banks and financial institutions, navigating car loans and purchases, and basic tax concepts to help them build a stable financial future in the U.S.

Workforce Development

Our program is deeply rooted in workforce development. We equip newcomers for success in the American workforce through employment orientation workshops and connecting to job skills training. These pre-employment workshops cover crucial topics like job searching strategies, the application process, interview techniques, and American workplace culture. This ensures our clients are not just placed in jobs but are also prepared to thrive in their new professional environments.

Mentorship

Beyond formal services, our clients benefit immensely from the guidance of dedicated volunteer mentors from the community. These caring individuals provide invaluable ongoing post-placement support and counseling, offering advice, sharing insights into American life and work culture, and acting as a trusted resource. This unique aspect not only benefits our clients by offering personalized assistance and cultural insights but also enriches the community through meaningful cross-cultural connections.
